Total recommended time from your San Diego front door to kickoff — drive, FIFA security entry, and incident margin included. Based on the route data behind our match-day operations, not a mapping app's free-flow estimate.
| Kickoff scenario | Projected drive north | Leave San Diego | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weekday evening kickoff (worst case) | 4.5–5.5 hrs | 6–7 hrs before kickoff | Match traffic stacks directly on LA's afternoon rush window |
| Weekday midday kickoff | 3–4 hrs | 5–6 hrs before kickoff | Beats the rush north, still absorbs FIFA security queues |
| Weekend kickoff | 2.5–3.5 hrs | 5–6 hrs before kickoff | Lighter freeway load, but venue-area congestion is match-driven, not day-driven |
| Knockout rounds (June 28 – July 10) | Add 30–60 min | Add margin to the above | Higher-stakes matches draw earlier arrivals and heavier lot volume |
Distances and windows: ~125 miles via I-5 N → I-405 N; lots open 3–4 hours pre-kickoff; FIFA security entry builds from 90+ minutes pre-kickoff. Match-specific departure recommendations are published on each match page below.
Clock one — the freeway. 125 miles sounds like two hours. On a tournament evening it is not. When a SoFi kickoff lands on LA's weekday rush, the northbound projection runs 4.5–5.5 hours. A Caltrans incident on I-405 adds more, and there is no fast alternate into Inglewood.
Clock two — the perimeter. Stadium lots open 3–4 hours before kickoff and FIFA's enhanced security means entry queues build from 90+ minutes out. Official parking is pre-purchase only — no walk-up sales — and has priced at $300 for premium-tier matches, with third-party lots from about $48–$151 that can leave you a two-mile walk to the gates.
Clock three — the way home. Post-match egress from the SoFi lots historically runs 60–120 minutes before you are on a freeway. Then it is still 2.5–3 hours back to San Diego. Evening kickoffs put self-drivers home well after midnight.

One flat rate covers the whole match day: door pickup anywhere in metro San Diego timed to your match's departure window, a sanctioned-curb drop at the venue, your chauffeur staged 1–2 miles out at a charging location during the match, and a return that rolls the moment you walk out — no egress lot, no post-match surge, no 2.5-hour drive on your own eyelids.
World Cup round-trip rates (San Diego ↔ SoFi Stadium, flat, confirmed at booking):

Two vehicles per match date. Opening Day sold out in five minutes — remaining dates will book the same way.
Six to seven hours before kickoff. That covers a worst-case 4.5–5.5 hour northbound drive when match traffic overlaps LA rush, FIFA's 90+ minute security entry, and incident margin. For a 6:00 PM PT kickoff, that means departing San Diego between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM.
About 125 miles via I-5 North and I-405 North — 2.5–3 hours in normal traffic, 3.5–5.5 hours on tournament match days depending on kickoff timing. The return adds 60–120 minutes of stadium egress before the southbound drive.
