How EGT Compares
Rideshare apps vary. EGT never does. Here's what that means on real rides.
| Scenario | EGT Zone Rate | Rideshare App | Taxi / Black Car |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hillcrest → Gaslamp, 9 PM Friday | $50 flat | $28–$65 surge | $35–$55 |
| OB → Little Italy, Saturday night | $50 flat | $45–$90 surge | $40–$65 |
| North Park → Downtown, 2 AM | $50 flat | $50–$110 surge | $45–$70 |
| Mission Valley → Hillcrest, weekday AM | $50 flat | $18–$30 | $28–$40 |
| Old Town → East Village, any time | $50 flat | $22–$55 varies | $30–$50 |
| 1K Member — any zone ride | $40 flat | No member rate | No member rate |
| Rideshare estimates based on typical published fare ranges. Surge pricing is real-time and uncontrolled — actual charges may vary significantly. EGT zone rate is always $50 ($40 for 1K members), no exceptions. Airport transfers (SAN, LAX, SNA, CBX) are billed at published airport transfer rates — not the Zone rate. | |||

What exactly is the EGT Neighborhood Zone?
It's a fixed geographic area covering central San Diego — from Ocean Beach in the west to North Park in the east, from Bay Ho and Bay Park in the north to Downtown in the south. Any EGT ride where both your pickup and your drop-off are inside the zone costs a flat $50. No meter. No surge. No exceptions.
Does the $50 Zone rate apply to airport trips?
No. Airport transfers are explicitly excluded from the Zone rate. Rides to or from San Diego International (SAN), LAX, SNA, or CBX are priced at the published airport transfer rates — starting at $145 for SAN. The Zone is for local neighborhood rides where both your pickup and drop-off are inside the zone boundary. If your destination is an airport, your SAN transfer rate applies. See airport transfer rates →
What if my ride starts in the zone but ends outside it?
If either your pickup or drop-off is outside the zone boundary — including any airport — standard point-to-point or airport transfer pricing applies. Call (858) 585-6957 and we'll quote you instantly. For nearby destinations like Coronado, La Jolla, or Kearny Mesa, rates start at $95–$105.
Does the $50 rate apply at 2 AM or on holidays?
Yes. $50 is the zone rate at 2 AM on New Year's Eve, on Padres playoff nights, during Comic-Con, and on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. EGT does not use surge pricing under any circumstances.
What vehicle do I get for a zone ride?
The same vehicle you'd get for an airport transfer — a BMW i7 xDrive60 or a Rivian R1S, with a professional TCP-licensed chauffeur. EGT does not operate a separate "economy" fleet for local rides. You get the full EGT standard every time.
How do I become a 1K member to get the $40 rate?
Call (858) 585-6957 and mention the 1K program. Enrollment is instant — no app, no account creation. Once enrolled, your zone rate drops to $40 on every ride, and your spend builds toward a $100 experience reward for every $1,000 you ride with EGT.
San Diego's Premier Car Service — Not Just the Best EV, the Best Car Service, Period
EGT is not a platform. There is no algorithm dispatching your driver. When you call (858) 585-6957, an owner answers — the same people who hold the TCP license and chose every vehicle in the fleet. Boutique by design. Zero compromises.
