After move-in: you probably don't need a car

• UCSD — free transit: the Triton U-Pass gives unlimited MTS/NCTD bus and Trolley with student fees (u-pass.ucsd.edu); the Blue Line Trolley serves campus.
• SDSU — Trolley on campus (Green Line) plus discounted MTS College Passes.
• USD & downtown are reachable on the Trolley/bus network (MTS).
• Owning a car is costly and complicated for a temporary resident: ~$11,577/year all-in (AAA 2025), plus expensive young-driver insurance and registration paperwork.
