Getting from San Diego Airport to Campus — Without a Car
Land jet-lagged with all your luggage and have a ride already waiting. Then let free transit take over. Here's how new students arrive car-free.
Pre-arrange your airport pickup: (858) 522-0264TL;DR
San Diego International (SAN) is ~10–20 minutes from most campuses. For arrival day — tired, with bags, before your transit is set up — a pre-arranged flat-rate pickup waiting when you land is the easiest, safest start, with the price locked (no surge). After that, you rarely need a car: UCSD's Triton U-Pass is free with student fees, SDSU has its own Trolley station, and the network reaches USD and downtown. Call (858) 522-0264.
Why a pre-arranged pickup beats figuring it out on arrival
- Someone's waiting: after a long international flight, you don't want to learn the transit system at midnight with three suitcases. A booked driver is there for your actual landing.
- Flight-tracked: a quality service watches your inbound flight, so a delay or early arrival is handled — not a problem.
- Flat, locked price: no surge when you happen to land at a busy hour; you know the cost before you fly.
- One known contact in a new country, in a clean, comfortable electric vehicle — a calm first impression of San Diego.
After move-in: you probably don't need a car
- UCSD — free transit: the Triton U-Pass gives unlimited MTS/NCTD bus and Trolley with student fees (u-pass.ucsd.edu); the Blue Line Trolley serves campus.
- SDSU — Trolley on campus (Green Line) plus discounted MTS College Passes.
- USD & downtown are reachable on the Trolley/bus network (MTS).
- Owning a car is costly and complicated for a temporary resident: ~$11,577/year all-in (AAA 2025), plus expensive young-driver insurance and registration paperwork.

Parents: the move-in window books out — reserve early
EGT's small all-electric fleet is the same one that sells out San Diego's concert and event calendar — twelve dates are fully booked as of July 11. August/September move-in weekends at UCSD, SDSU and USD stack airport pickups, luggage runs and campus drops into the same few days, and slots go to whoever reserved first. A named, vetted driver is confirmed before pickup — the rate never changes with demand. Book the airport pickup the day the flight is ticketed: call or text (858) 522-0264, or see student transportation plans.
