Downtown to SAN is the fastest run we do — 10 to 18 minutes from curb to curb under normal conditions. Harbor Drive is almost always faster than catching I-5 for downtown pickups. The exception is the stretch near the cruise terminal between 7:30am and 9am, when Harbor Drive traffic backs up from light timing changes. In that window, we route through Kettner Boulevard to Laurel Street and drop onto Harbor Drive past the backup.
The bigger variable for downtown travelers isn't the drive — it's the terminal. SAN has two terminals and three separate security checkpoints. We confirm your terminal before every departure so there's no ambiguity at the curb. For Gaslamp and East Village pickups, we approach from the Airport Circle entrance. For Little Italy and Waterfront, Harbor Drive direct.
One note on current conditions: SAN's Terminal 2 West checkpoint has been running 20–35 minute wait times during morning hours in early 2026 due to TSA staffing challenges.
