LAX $425 flat, any vehicle · SoFi Chargers round trip from $300 · no surge, shutdown or not

Direct answer: On Saturday September 12 and Sunday September 13, 2026, Pacific Surfliner trains are suspended on the full San Diego–Los Angeles corridor with no bus bridges (track work; see the official advisory at pacificsurfliner.com). Elite Green Transportation runs the corridor at published flat rates: San Diego to LAX $425 one way, identical in all three vehicles ($445 Chula Vista/South Bay) and SoFi Stadium round trip $300 / $350 / $400 for the Chargers home opener on Sunday the 13th. One round trip per vehicle per event — and September 13 is nearly committed. Call or text (858) 522-0264.
TL;DR: No trains, no rail buses, both days, the whole corridor — on a weekend with a sold-out Petco show Saturday and the Chargers opener at SoFi Sunday. A private flat-rate car is the door-to-door option that doesn't care what the tracks are doing. Three vehicles, one round trip each, first-come first-served.

What is actually happening that weekend

The shutdown: LOSSAN track work suspends Pacific Surfliner service between San Diego and San Luis Obispo on September 12–13, 2026. Unlike most maintenance weekends, no substitute bus bridges are being offered — the corridor is simply dark. Confirm against the official Pacific Surfliner alerts page before you travel.

It starts Friday, September 11: the disruption is not just the weekend. On Friday the 11th, Surfliner Train 794 terminates in Los Angeles instead of continuing north, and Train 595 is also affected as crews stage the LOSSAN work window. If your plan was the Friday-evening train up for a Saturday event, that plan needs a second look too.

What it collides with: Sunday September 13 is the Chargers' home opener at SoFi Stadium — the single biggest San Diego→LA travel day of the early season, normally absorbed in part by the train. Saturday the 12th, Petco Park hosts a sold-out show downtown. Demand up, capacity down.

Every way to make the trip that weekend — compared honestly

OptionRoughlyThe catch that weekend
Surfliner trainNot running Sep 12–13 (SD–San Luis Obispo), no bus bridges; Friday 794/595 curtailed
Drive yourself~$40–$80 gas + parkingSoFi event parking sells ahead; I-5 Sunday return after the game is the worst drive of the month
Intercity bus~$25–$60Cheapest seat left standing — expect sell-outs as displaced rail riders shift; downtown-to-downtown only
Fly SAN–LAXvaries widelyAdds security + ground transfer on both ends; door-to-door often no faster than driving
EGT private car$425 flat (LAX / anywhere LA basin, any vehicle) · SoFi round trips belowCosts more than the bus — but it is door-to-door, fixed at booking, and immune to the parking and the exit crush

The cheapest real option is the bus; the fastest door-to-door for a group is a private car. Pick by party size: at 4–5 passengers the flat car rate splits to bus-fare territory without the terminal.

The published rates — unchanged by the shutdown

Gratuity, tolls, flight tracking and waiting time are inside the number. No surge, no shutdown premium, no percentage service charge — the published rate is the rate. A full car splits the flat rate per seat: five to SoFi in the IQ-L is $80 a seat, round trip. Other LA destinations (Union Station, Disneyland corridor, downtown LA): call for the flat quote before you book — you will have the number before you commit.

One round trip per vehicle — and Sunday the 13th is nearly committed

Three vehicles. One party each. When they're booked, the weekend is sold out and the cancellation list opens.

The honest concession

If you're traveling alone and your dates are flexible, an intercity bus (FlixBus, Greyhound) still runs I-5 that weekend and a booked-ahead seat is far cheaper than $425. The bus can't do door-to-door, an event return staged to the encore, or five people with luggage — that's the lane we occupy. If the bus fits your trip, take it.
