San Diego Rideshare Tier Hub — Every Uber and Lyft Tier Explained, with Elite Green Transportation Comparators
This page is the canonical reference for the rideshare-tier landscape in San Diego as of May 2026. It documents every Uber tier and every Lyft tier currently available in the SD market, explains what each tier actually is (vehicle class, service model, pricing behavior), and maps each one to the Elite Green Transportation comparator that addresses the same customer need. Use it as the index page for the individual comparison articles linked throughout.
San Diego has six current Uber consumer tiers and ten current Lyft consumer tiers. Both Uber and Lyft are rideshare: on-demand, 1099 contractor drivers matched at request, dynamic pricing with surge. EGT operates one parallel product: reserved private electric car service with three vehicles — BMW i7 (4-seat sedan), Rivian R1S (5-seat SUV), Cadillac Escalade IQ-L (6-seat premium SUV) — principal-driven (the owner-operator who books your ride drives it), TCP-licensed, flat-rate, no surge. EGT is not a tier in the rideshare ladder; it is a different product model that addresses the customer needs the rideshare ladder is structurally unable to address — reserved booking, known driver, known vehicle, known price, 100% electric, principal-class service.

Why "EGT vs Uber/Lyft" Is Not a Tier-vs-Tier Question
Rideshare is a service model. Reserved private car service is a different service model. Comparing "EGT BMW i7 vs Uber Black" on price alone misses the structural difference: Uber Black is an on-demand product where the customer gets a premium sedan whenever the platform matches one. EGT is a reservation product where the customer gets a specific BMW i7 with a specific principal driver at a specific flat rate, known in advance.
For low-stakes spontaneous trips, rideshare is structurally the right tool. The customer wants speed of availability over commitment of vehicle. For airport transfers, hotel pickups, executive travel, late-night arrivals, event-day rides, and repeat-customer patterns where consistency matters, reserved private car service is structurally the right tool. The customer wants commitment of vehicle, driver, and price over speed of availability.
EGT is the second model. The 1K Loyalty Program brings the reserved-private-car-service price into competitive range with the rideshare premium tiers on most San Diego routes — and below them on every route once Uber's published surge multipliers are factored in.
The Principal-Driven Model
Every Uber and Lyft driver, regardless of tier, is a 1099 independent contractor matched to a request by the platform's algorithm. The driver is anonymous before pickup, transient across rides, and accountable to the platform's rating system rather than to the customer directly.
EGT drivers are principals — owner-operators. The person who books your ride is the same person who drives it. The principal owns the vehicle, holds the licensing, carries the commercial insurance, and stands behind the service personally. The customer-principal relationship compounds across repeat bookings: the principal learns the customer's preferences, and the customer builds confidence in a known person and vehicle. This is the structural model used in family-office and executive transportation; it is not the rideshare model.
The 1K Loyalty Program Math
EGT 1K is enrollment-on-call: tell dispatch "make me a 1K member" on any ride and the 20% discount applies immediately. No annual fee, no app, no card. Spend tracking is cumulative across the calendar year and includes fare plus tip on every ride. When cumulative spend reaches $1,000, the member receives $100 back. The cycle repeats up to six times per calendar year, for a maximum reward of $599 back on $6,000 of spending. A regular EGT rider earning the full reward cycle brings the effective per-ride rate to approximately $36 for a Zone ride that lists at $50.
