Car seat law applies — especially on the Safari Park run
The Safari Park leg is 35 miles of I-15 freeway — not a two-minute hotel hop. California requires children under 2 in rear-facing seats, and children under 8 or under 4'9" in a car seat or booster, in any private vehicle including a hired car. How it works with EGT: you supply the seats (yours fit your kids — the safest option), the driver arrives 10–15 minutes early so installation is never rushed, and the seats stay installed for the return leg on round trips. The 6-passenger long-wheelbase Escalade IQ-L takes two installed seats plus adults and a folded stroller without anyone riding cramped.
Which park on which day (the family version)
- Zoo with under-5s: the better first day — 10 minutes from downtown hotels, shaded, dense (short walking loops), and a bail-out is cheap: text the driver and the pickup moves earlier. Drop 9am, pickup 1:30–2pm beats the nap wall.
- Safari Park with under-5s: commit to the full day but time it: drop at 9am opening, do the Africa Tram first (seated, shaded, the guaranteed win), lunch early, pickup 2:30–3pm before valley heat peaks. The 40-minute ride home in a quiet EV is the nap.
- School-age kids: reverse it — Safari Park is the bigger hit (ziplines, savanna); give it the longer day, 9am–4pm.
Strollers, bags, and the things families carry
Both parks rent strollers, but your own is better through the parking-lot-to-gate stretch — and with EGT there is no lot: you load at the hotel door and unload at the entrance. The Escalade IQ-L and R1S swallow a double stroller, a cooler bag and a diaper backpack with seats installed. On the return, everything is already in the car you got out of — no end-of-day reload with a tired toddler on your hip.
