The 30-minute rule is where transport matters
The course is blunt about it: players must check in at least 30 minutes before their tee time or risk tee time forfeiture. For a 6:40 AM South Course time that means checking in by 6:10 AM, which means leaving a downtown or Coronado hotel by about 5:45 AM. A rideshare at that hour is a gamble on driver availability; a rental car means driving a strange freeway in the dark with clubs in the trunk and then finding parking. Torrey Pines is in La Jolla (EGT Zone 2), roughly 15–20 minutes from downtown at dawn and longer once the I-5 morning build starts.
