What CBX is, and how the ride works
Cross Border Xpress (CBX) is a private enclosed pedestrian skybridge in Otay Mesa, San Diego that connects directly into Tijuana International Airport (TIJ). You park-and-fly out of TIJ — popular for Volaris, VivaAerobus and Aeroméxico flights across Mexico and beyond — while staying on the US side until the last minute. EGT drops you at the CBX terminal on the US side (2745 Otay Pacific Drive). From there you cross the bridge with your boarding pass and CBX crossing ticket. EGT does not drive into Mexico; pickup and drop-off are US-side only.

Road work on the CBX approach, August 9–13, 2026
Caltrans District 11 announced on that it will intermittently close several I-5 and SR-905 connectors from 8 p.m. Sunday, August 9 to 6 a.m. Monday, August 10 for signage work — the westbound SR-905 connector to northbound I-5 and both southbound I-5 connectors to SR-905 across the full window, plus the northbound I-5 and eastbound SR-905 connectors on the night of August 9. Those are the roads that feed Otay Mesa and the CBX terminal. Caltrans lists detours via Coronado Avenue, Dairy Mart Road, West San Ysidro Boulevard and Beyer Boulevard. Separately, Caltrans says the westbound SR-94 connector to northbound I-5 is closed 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., Sunday, August 9 through Thursday, August 13, detouring via 25th Street and F Street.
TIJ's early flight banks mean a lot of CBX runs leave San Diego inside exactly those overnight hours. If you are flying out of Tijuana on the morning of August 10 through August 13, build the detour into your departure time — or book a flight-tracked flat rate and let the driver own the routing. An EGT flat rate does not change because the connector was closed; a metered or surge fare does.

How big is CBX — and why skip the parking
CBX now carries roughly 4 million passengers a year (13M+ since it opened in 2015) — nearly half of all travelers entering California from Mexico cross through it, and TIJ connects to ~40 Mexican destinations (20+ daily flights to Mexico City) plus nonstops as far as China, usually far cheaper than flying SAN. And the parking math rarely pencils: CBX parking runs roughly $15–$18/day (long-term as low as $14), CBX itself warns against parking on nearby streets due to vehicle theft, and that's before the ~$20 one-way crossing ticket.
