The snowbird and second home owner: a car that meets every arrival for the season

A second home in Coronado, La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe or Carlsbad is flown to a dozen times a year and driven to never. This page is the standing airport ride for the people who own one: the house on file, every flight met, and the keys staying exactly where they are.

Direct answer

Is there a car service for seasonal residents flying in and out of San Diego? Yes. Elite Green Transportation runs a standing airport ride for the season: the house goes on file once in the autumn, every arrival is tracked from the gate and met, every departure is collected at a time set against the flight, and the arrangement ends when you close the house. Coronado, La Jolla, Del Mar and Solana Beach are $80 one way; Rancho Santa Fe, Carlsbad and Encinitas are $95, for up to two passengers, locked when the house goes on file. LAX is $425 flat. Keys never change hands: the driver takes you to the door, and your house manager or lockbox does the rest. Pay after each ride or on one monthly bill.

1. The car for the season

A second home in San Diego is flown to, not driven to. The owners arrive in October or January, leave in April or May, and in between make a dozen trips: back to the primary residence for a board meeting, out to see grandchildren, in for a long weekend when the weather at home turns. Every one of those trips starts and ends at San Diego International, and every one of them raises the same question a full time resident never has to ask: how do we get from the terminal to a house where there may or may not be a car, a garage opener, or anyone home?

The standing ride answers it once for the season. The house goes on file in the autumn. Every arrival for the season is met, every departure is collected, and the arrangement ends when you close the house in the spring. There is nothing to renew in between and nothing bills for a month you stay put.

Coronado, La Jolla, Del Mar and Solana Beach houses are Zone 2: $80 one way for up to two passengers. Rancho Santa Fe, Carlsbad and Encinitas are Zone 3: $95. Up to four passengers is $100 in Zone 2 and $115 in Zone 3; up to five is $120 and $135. A round trip is two legs. Locked when the house goes on file, and the same in March as in November.

2. The house is on file. Keys never change hands.

What a seasonal resident actually needs from a car service is memory. Which gate. Which of the two driveways. That the bags go to the side door in Rancho Santa Fe because the front steps are steep. That the Coronado house has a guest room on the alley and the hotel's entrance loop is not where you want to be dropped. We keep all of it on the pattern, and the driver who has done the run before is the driver we send when we can.

What we do not do is hold your keys. The driver takes you to the door and carries the bags to it. The house manager, the neighbor with the spare, the lockbox or the smart lock does the rest, as it would if you had driven yourself. Keys never change hands with us, on purpose: it keeps the arrangement simple and keeps your house's access in your hands, not in a car's glovebox.

If the house has a caretaker or a property manager, they can book on the pattern too. Some of our seasonal clients never text us at all; their assistant sends the flight numbers and settles the bill at the end of the month.

3. What every arrival looks like

  1. Flight number by text, from you, your assistant or your house manager, any time before the day.
  2. Tracked from the gate. Land early and the car is already at the curb. Land late and the pickup moves with the aircraft. A missed connection in Denver or Dallas is a text, not a problem, and none of it changes the price.
  3. Met where you want to be met. At the curb with the car described, or inside at baggage claim with a name sign when there are more bags than hands, which at the start of a season there usually are.
  4. Home. The driver knows the way, the gate and the door. Bags carried to the threshold.
  5. Settle after the ride by cash, Zelle, Venmo or a payment link, or on one bill at the end of the month, itemized by date. Gratuity is at your discretion.

Departures run in reverse, at a pickup time we set together against the flight. SAN prohibits departures before 6:30 a.m., so the first bank is crowded and the pickup for it lands between 4:45 and 5:30 depending on the house. Most seasonal residents fly later than that, and the pattern works at any hour.

4. When the flight is not into SAN

Second home owners fly whatever gets them to the coast. Some routes land at Los Angeles, John Wayne or Ontario instead, and the standing ride covers those on a flat one way rate: LAX $425 and John Wayne or Ontario $299, any hour, tracked the same way. It is a long drive at the end of a long flight, in a car that already knows the house at the other end, and it is the same number every time.

Within the county, the pattern also covers the trips a seasonal resident makes that are not the airport at all: the Coronado house to a dinner in La Jolla, the Del Mar house to the Rancho Santa Fe club. Those are quoted point to point when you text, on the same flat basis, and go on the same monthly bill.

5. Why not keep a car at the house?

Many do, and the standing ride still earns its place, because the car at the house is not at the airport. It is in a garage, with a battery that has been sitting since March, and getting it to the terminal for a departure means either driving it there and paying SAN's published $40 daily maximum for each day you are gone, with no monthly product on offer, or asking someone to drive you. A five night trip home is $200 on the plaza before you have left the county. The two legs of a standing ride from Coronado are $160, and the car stays in the garage where a seasonal car belongs.

The frequent flyer hub lays out the full published rate card and the airport's parking figures; the weekly commuter page works the same arithmetic for a year of weekly travel.

In fairness. We are a three car, owner operated company. That is why the same driver usually meets you and why the seasonal pattern is confirmed against the calendar rather than promised blind: on a marquee event night a pickup can move by fifteen minutes and we tell you the evening before. We do not hold keys, check on houses or run errands between rides; a property manager does those. What we do is meet every flight for the season, at the same price, with someone who knows the house.

6. Put the house on file

Text (858) 522-0264 with two things: your typical flight pattern and your pickup address. That is the whole application. An owner reads it back to you with the zone rate and the pickup window, and the pattern is on the calendar. If you would rather talk it through, call the same number.

A first text for this pattern: “Coronado house from mid October to April, we fly in and out roughly every three weeks, usually the afternoon United from Denver, two passengers, our house manager may book some rides.” Neighborhood pages with the local detail: Coronado to SAN, La Jolla to SAN, Del Mar to SAN, Rancho Santa Fe to SAN and Carlsbad to SAN.

Put the house on file for the season

Text the house, the months and the usual flights. An owner reads back the rate, and every flight for the season is covered.

7. Questions seasonal residents ask

Can I set up an airport car service for the whole season at my San Diego second home?

Yes. Text Elite Green Transportation once with the house, the months you are in residence and your usual flights. The house goes on file, every arrival for the season is tracked and met, every departure is collected, and the arrangement ends when you close the house. Nothing bills for a stretch when you do not travel.

What does it cost from Coronado, La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe or Carlsbad?

Coronado, La Jolla, Del Mar and Solana Beach are Zone 2, $80 one way for up to two passengers. Rancho Santa Fe, Carlsbad and Encinitas are Zone 3, $95. Up to four passengers is $100 and $115, up to five is $120 and $135. A round trip is two legs, and the rate is locked when the house goes on file.

Do you hold house keys or check on the house between visits?

No. The driver takes you to the door and carries the bags to it; a house manager, lockbox, smart lock or neighbor handles access, as it would if you had driven. Keys never change hands with us, deliberately. A house manager or assistant can book rides on the pattern and settle the monthly bill.

What if we fly into LAX or John Wayne instead of San Diego?

The standing ride covers those on a flat one way rate: LAX $425, John Wayne or Ontario $299, tracked from the gate the same way. The driver already knows the house at the other end.

How do we pay from out of state?

After each ride by Zelle, Venmo or a payment link, or on one bill at the end of the month itemized by date. Nothing is due at booking and there is no deposit. Gratuity is at your discretion.
