Big Bay Boom Without the Bayfront Parking War

The West Coast's biggest July 4th show launches at 9 PM from four barges on San Diego Bay. Getting there is easy. Getting out is the problem we solve — timed drop-off and pickup blocks, flat rates, and a traffic-delay refund policy.

How Do I See the Big Bay Boom Without Parking?

Direct answer: Book a timed curbside drop-off near your viewing area — Shelter Island, Harbor Island, the Embarcadero, Seaport Village, or Coronado Ferry Landing — and a reserved pickup block for after the 9 PM show. EGT runs three one-hour drop-off blocks and three one-hour pickup blocks per vehicle on July 4, first-come, first-served: $120 per leg in the BMW i7 (2 passengers) or $200 per leg in the Cadillac Escalade IQ-L (up to 5), or both legs together for $200 (i7) / $300 (IQ-L). No meters, no garage queue, no post-show surge.

The Show — and the Exit Problem

The show: The 2026 Big Bay Boom launches at 9:00 PM on Saturday, July 4 from four barges positioned across San Diego Bay — roughly 18 minutes of choreographed fireworks with a musical simulcast, produced by the Port of San Diego with the Fleet Week Foundation, with Carnival Cruise Line as 2026's official cruise sponsor.

The exit: One of the year's biggest single-night crowds leaves the bayfront at the same moment, through the same handful of signals on Harbor Drive, Shelter Island Drive, and Harbor Island Drive. That's the hour when rideshare surges and parked cars sit in garage queues. A reserved pickup block means your vehicle — and your locked rate — are already assigned before the first shell goes up.

In town for the World Cup? July 4 lands between the SoFi Stadium Round of 32 on June 28 and the July 2 match — if you're basing in San Diego for the tournament (our complete World Cup transportation guide), the Big Bay Boom is the city's signature night between knockout rounds, and the same EGT vehicles cover both. Thirteen days later, Del Mar Opening Day (July 17) kicks off the summer racing season — same flat-rate ride, no time cap.

How the July 4 Block System Works

Each vehicle runs three one-hour drop-off blocks before the show and three one-hour pickup blocks after it. You book a block, not a guess. Blocks are first-come, first-served — when they're gone, they're gone.

Leg BMW i7 (2 passengers) Cadillac Escalade IQ-L (up to 5)
Drop-off only (1-hr block) $120 flat $200 flat
Pickup only (1-hr block) $120 flat $200 flat
Round trip (both legs) $200 flat $300 flat — $60/seat for five

Service extending past the booked one-hour block: flat $100 overage for that leg — disclosed up front, never surged. Three drop-off and three pickup blocks per vehicle, first-come first-served.

The traffic-delay promise

July 4th bayfront traffic is genuinely unpredictable, so we price the risk instead of hiding it: EGT proactively notifies later blocks of developing delays, and if your leg is delayed by traffic and you'd rather cancel, we refund that leg in full — no cost, no argument. Nobody else on the bay offers that on July 4th.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should I watch the Big Bay Boom?

The show launches from four barges across the bay, so Shelter Island, Harbor Island, the North Embarcadero, Seaport Village, and Coronado Ferry Landing all have direct sightlines. Your drop-off block puts you at the curb near any of them — tell us your viewing spot when you book.

What if my pickup block gets stuck in traffic?

We notify later blocks of delays as they develop. If your leg is delayed and you prefer to cancel, that leg is refunded in full at no cost. If your run goes past its one-hour block, the overage is a flat $100 — locked, not surged.

Is this cheaper than driving and parking?

For groups, usually. The IQ-L round trip at $300 is $60 per seat for five people — with no parking hunt on the most crowded night of the summer, no garage queue, and a reserved exit while rideshare prices spike.

Can I book just the ride home?

Yes — legs sell separately. A pickup-only block is $120 (i7) or $200 (IQ-L). Many guests drive in early for dinner and book only the escape.

Does the $50 Zone rate apply on July 4th?

Big Bay Boom service uses the event-block rates on this page, which include staging, the reserved block, and the delay policy. The $50 neighborhood Zone covers regular non-event rides.
